For Suki Seokyeong Kang, art measured how the individual inhabits the world—rooted in the concept of Jari (“place,” “seat,” or “territory”).
Jeong reflects the theme of tonight's gala in both name and spirit, created using baejeop, a traditional process of layering and adhering delicate silk and hanji (Korean mulberry paper). Kang saw each layer as a moment in time, subtle shifts mirroring the passage of seasons, the accumulation of memories, and the bonds that deepen between people.
Jeong #21 embodies quiet generosity and the belief in human connection. It is currently on view at Tina Kim Gallery. Kang's work has been exhibited internationally at the Leeum Museum of Art, the Venice Biennale, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and more.
